MIRI (July 30): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 49-year-old man RM2,300 in default four months in prison after he pleaded guilty to abusing drugs two years ago.
Jamirin Ahmad of Kampung Melayu Beluru in Bakong made the plea before Magistrate Randu Rangen, who ordered the man to undergo two years of supervision.
Jamirin was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years.
Based on the facts of the case, Jamirin was tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department around 10.30am on April 16, 2022.
Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case while Jamirin was unrepresented by legal counsel.
