KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Nov 14) sentenced an unemployed man to eight months in prison for threatening to burn his father’s house because he was not given the requested money.

Hafizul Bohari, 23, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charge, he deliberately uttered criminal threats to burn his 59-year-old father’s house in Taman Bako, around 6.30 pm on November 10.

If convicted, he could have face imprisonment for up to seven years or a fine, or both.

During the incident, the complainant’s son expressed anger, stating his intention to burn the house due to not receiving the requested money.

Concerned for the safety of himself and other family members, the complainant filed a police report, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day, 17 minutes after the incident.

Additionally, the accused had three past criminal records involving two drug abuse cases and one case of property damage.

The prosecution was handled by Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
