BINTULU (July 24): The booster pump station, water tank and pipeline system project in Maskat is 97.43 per cent complete, says Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.
According to the Utility and Telecommunication Minister, the project costs nearly RM38 million.
“The project is physically 97.43 per cent complete and currently in the testing and commissioning phase,” he said after his working visit yesterday to the site, located about an hour’s drive from here.
He said the project includes a new water tank with a capacity of 2 million litres, a 450mm ductile iron pipeline system from the Nyabau Water Treatment Plant to Simpang Sebauh spanning 18km, a booster station complete with a suction tank and an installation of 160mm HDPE pipelines to longhouses in the area.
“This water project is part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System implemented by the state government using its own budget,” he added.
Julaihi also said the project aims to ensure the stability and quality of water supply in the area.
“It can benefit 37 longhouses with a population of 3,745 people; this includes the Bintulu parliamentary constituency as well as the Kemena and Samalaju state constituencies,” he said.
Also present during the site visit were Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department director Awang Fadillah Awang Reduan and deputy director Ahmad Selihin.
