KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak and Sabah will be billed as the country’s favourite domestic destinations at the MATTA Fair next month.

It will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here from Sept 6-8.

The announcement was made by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) which said the MATTA fair will be an excellent platform for Sabah and Sarawak to showcase, promote, and market their unique tourism attractions.

The Sarawak Tourism Board will collaborate with the Sabah Tourism Board to present a unified showcase under the theme “Discover Borneo: Malaysia’s Favourite Destination”.

According to MATTA president Nigel Wong, the organisation is dedicated to showcasing Borneo’s unparalleled beauty and cultural heritage.

“This initiative aims to elevate Sabah and Sarawak as premier travel destinations, drawing local and international tourists to experience their unique offering,” he stated in a statement.

STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor said it is not just about promoting tourism but about sharing the heart and soul of Borneo with the world.

“Together, we can create a compelling narrative that positions Borneo as Malaysia’s favourite destinations, captivating the hearts of travellers from Peninsular Malaysia and beyond,” she said.

At the MATTA Fair, visitors will find an array of exciting travel packages highlighting the best of Sarawak, including the Kuching Day Tours, the Sea Turtle Conservation Programme, and the Heart to Heart with Orang Utan Programme, as well as the Sarawak Delta Geopark and Niah packages which offer unique opportunities to explore the hidden gems of Sarawak.

The fair’s booths will feature live demonstrations of traditional dishes and handicrafts, providing a sensory journey in line with Sarawak’s Gateway to Borneo campaign.

Admission to the MATTA Fair is free and open to the public from 10am to 9pm.
