KUCHING, 17 Sept: The learning needs in tandem with technological developments have prompted the Sarawak Region Maybank to strengthen digital facilities at Santubong National High School (SMK) through the contribution of four smart television (TV) units.
Sarawak Maybank Regional Director, Brother Jamili Abang July said the donation was part of the two-year initiative of Maybank's Light Love Program to help schools address barriers to technology and communication facilities.
According to him, changes in the education system and technological developments require all parties to adapt to current circumstances to ensure that students have a learning experience appropriate to today's needs.
"We will work together to help children, especially in learning or education.
"The times have changed, the times are not like when I was in school or when Your Honor (Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri) went to school. So we have to adapt to the current situation", he said.
He said this while addressing Maybank's Global Corporate Responsibility (CR) Day 2026 and Light Love Challenge Programme 2026-2027 at SMK Santubong, today.
Brother Jamili explained that the provision of digital facilities is expected to enhance the learning experience of students, as well as give them opportunities to use technology in the educational process.
He believes that digital transformation is an inevitable necessity given that the economy and society are increasingly dependent on technology.
Additionally, the contributions of the four smart TVs also reflect Maybank's commitment to making a positive impact on society through its corporate responsibility initiative.
"The Light of Love program is not just a volunteer program, it involves sharing the time, energy and expertise of Maybankers to help meet the real needs of the community", he said.
Among the shares given to schoolchildren are technology-related knowledge as well as Maybank's digital platform that can give students exposure to developments in the digital world.
Meanwhile, Brother Jamili hopes more corporate actors will appear to help the schools in strengthening educational and technological facilities.
"I hope there are other corporate parties who might be able to help this school as well", she explained.
He said the effort was in line with Maybank's commitment to make a positive impact on society through various initiatives under its Road to POTI strategy till 2030.
According to him, a total of 93 initiatives were implemented by Maybank this year in support of the agenda, with a focus among them on community empowerment, volunteerism and sustainability.
Brother Jamili said Maybank is also targeting 150,000 hours of volunteer work this year across the group, with a larger approach to skills-based volunteering.
