KAPIT (Sept 11): The Maybank team here did their part in local community development through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at the Kapit Lily Pond last weekend.

Led by the branch manager Dick Yeo, the Kapit ‘Maybankers’ gathered at the recreational area for a ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) covering general clean-up works on the walkway.

‘Armed’ with brooms, baskets, plastic bags, sickles and machetes, the volunteers were divided into groups.

“There are those collecting the rubbish including the fallen leaves and twigs, clear up the overgrowth, trimming and pruning the trees – all meant to give Kapit Lily Pond a refreshing facelift,” Yeo told reporters when met at the park.

He added: “This is a community service carried out by Maybank Kapit branch in collaboration with Kapit District Council. We’re all so happy that this project gets the full support from the council.”

In his remarks, the council chairman Lating Minggang also thanked Maybank Kapit for choosing Lily Pond as the venue for the CSR activity.

“The Lily Pond is a popular recreational ground among the locals and visitors alike. We at Kapit District Council always welcome Maybank or any other organisations to take part in efforts keep this park clean and beautiful, so that the visitors can always enjoy the scenery and other facilities.

“For your information, the Forest Department and also SEB (Sarawak Energy Bhd) had earlier planted many tree varieties here, in advocating green development.

“Now, the Lily Pond has become our ‘green lung’ right in the middle of the town,” said Lating.
