KUCHING (Feb 13): A total of 500 chickens were distributed to residents of KMC Flats here to add warmth to their upcoming reunion dinners, said Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
Wee explained that Chinese New Year is a time for reunion, with families gathering around the dining table to celebrate together.
“Each household is given one chicken and a RM10 voucher sponsored by CCK. This may seem modest, but we hope it will ease your preparation for the reunion dinner and bring warmth to your home,” he said when launching the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Caring Community Programme at KMC Flats on Friday (Feb 13).
Wee said this programme carries a significant message, that MBKS cares and stands together with the community.
He added that the initiative, held annually every Chinese New Year, is not merely about distributing assistance but symbolises compassion, unity and shared responsibility.
MBKS aims to ensure that every household at KMC Flats can celebrate the festive season with joy and dignity, he said.
The mayor pointed out that the council believes development is not only about infrastructure, but also about people.
“A caring city is one that looks after its community, especially families who need support. Our commitment is clea; no one is left behind.”
Wee also extended his appreciation to CCK Consolidated Holdings Berhad for supporting MBKS’ Caring Community Programme over the years.
He said CCK’s corporate social responsibility commitment demonstrates how public-private collaboration can make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
“I hope this small contribution will bring happiness to your family. May this Spring Festival bring you good health, harmony and prosperity.
“Let’s continue to support and care for one another and build a compassionate Kuching South together,” he added.
