KUCHING, Nov 17: The Kuching Natural Farmers’ Market has tripled to more than 30 vendors in one year, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
According to Wee, the vendors have over 300 Facebook followers, attracting more than 200 health-conscious buyers, and the numbers continue to grow.
“This shows that Kuching people are also keen to source foods from organic and sustainable sources, which is why MBKS must help them do this.
“We must also support our Kuching farmers by promoting our local, seasonal, homegrown fruits and vegetables.
“Growing more food using low-cost, home-made and eco-friendly inputs has important socio-economic and environmental advantages for the community,” he said at the Korean and JADAM Nature Farming workshop held at Swinburne College today.
On Oct 14, a group of local organic farmers in Kuching found a permanent spot to sell their products thanks to MBKS.
Meanwhile, the two-day (Nov 17-18) workshop saw over 200 participants from Sarawak, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia.
The participants will share and learn from international experts from the Philippines about the latest Korean and JADAM technology for ‘Almost-No-Cost’ Sustainable Farming.
Wee also congratulate Nature Resource Solutions (NRS), Swinburne Sarawak Science Society and Sarawak Skills for organising the workshop.
“We appreciate the work of NRS and its partners, Kuching Urban Farming and our local organic or natural Farmers.
“They bring us safe and healthy food in the Kuching Natural Farmers’ Market. This aligns with our motto, ‘Service for the People’,” he added. — DayakDaily
