“I feel excited to see the support from the people who are willing to queue up for so long to get the tickets (today).

“They know that we have been making preparations for the opening ceremony since a few months ago, and they know that Sarawak Arts Council is going to give a very beautiful performance.

“We only hope that there will be no rain,” he told reporters when met after the closing ceremony of the Innovative and Creative Convention (ICC) 2024 for the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) held at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre here today.

For those who are not able to get the tickets, Abdul Karim said they can watch the opening ceremony broadcast live on television.

He also said they can come to the Celebration Square (outside Stadium Sarawak), where a large screen will be provided to allow the members of the public to watch the opening ceremony live together.

Earlier, the Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU) distributed 7,500 tickets from 10am until 2pm.

Another batch of 7,500 tickets will be distributed tomorrow (Aug 13) from 10am onwards.

Sukma 2024 will commence from Aug 17 to 24, with 37 sports events contested in nine divisions—Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri.
