KUCHING, June 7: Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has channelled RM50,000 to the Engkilili Community Leaders Association as a show of support for efforts to strengthen grassroots leadership institutions.
According to Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, community leaders and grassroots representatives play a vital role by conveying the needs of local communities to the government and ensuring development initiatives are implemented effectively.
He said the allocation is intended to support the implementation of community-related activities and enhance community leaders’ roles in driving local development.
“The allocation is also expected to facilitate community development programmes that will directly benefit residents in the Engkilili area,” he said at a Gawai Dayak programme held in Engkilili today, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
The programme, organised by the Skim Skrang Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) in collaboration with the Engkilili Community Leaders Association, drew around 1,370 guests.
It aimed to serve as a platform for guests to strengthen ties, foster the spirit of cooperation, and reinforce unity among people of different ethnic backgrounds.
