Miri cops on the hunt for 4 suspects in attempted kidnapping of female jogger

MIRI (Aug 3): A lone jogger’s morning routine along Jalan Bakam here took a scary turn when she was ambushed by four masked men in an attempted kidnapping.

She sustained injuries while attempting to break free.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement confirmed a police report was received on the case which happened around 4.30am on July 28.

The four suspects were said to have travelled in a dark purple Perodua Alza, he said.

“In the incident, the vehicle stopped and approached the victim, who was jogging alone at the time, near a campsite. Two suspects got out of the vehicle and grabbed her hands, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to both elbows and her left knee.

“According to the victim, the suspects were unarmed and she could not identify them or the vehicle’s registration number,” he said.

The motive for the incident is still under investigation and no personal items were taken from the victim.

“In this particular case, the victim was jogging alone at 4.30am. I advise the public not to take their safety lightly. Always take precautionary measures and always be aware of your surroundings,” he said.

Meanwhile, Alexson advised the public not to speculate or spread unfounded issues on social media, which could cause anxiety and concern.
