MIRI: The Miri district police seized methamphetamine worth RM37,250 and arrested two local men in two separate raids.
According to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the first raid took place on Aug 23, around 10 am, targeting a roadside hut in Miri.
During the operation, police apprehended a 23-year-old unemployed man and confiscated five transparent plastic packages containing suspected methamphetamine, weighing a total of 7.71 grams.
The seized drugs are valued at approximately RM850.
The second raid, conducted on Aug 24 at around 9 am, focused on a parking area in the Miri region. In this operation, officers detained another unemployed local man aged 37, and confiscated a black bag containing a plastic package filled with suspected methamphetamine, weighing 1,040 grams.
The estimated value of the seized drugs in this case is RM36,400. Additionally, a car worth RM8,500 was also confiscated as part of the investigation.
The combined value of the drugs seized in these two operations totals RM45,750.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days (remand order for first suspects expired on Friday, while on Saturday for second suspect) at the Miri court to assist in ongoing investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
The investigation also involves Section 39A(1) of the same Act.
ACP Alexson urged the public to come forward with any information regarding drug activities to help the authorities in their efforts to combat and eradicate drug-related crimes in the area.
