MIRI: The 33rd Asean Veteran Basketball Tournament will be hosted by Miri from Sept 5-9.
A total of seven countries, namely Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia are sending their veteran basketball stars to participate in the four-day event.
The tournament is an interesting one because it enables basketball enthusiasts up to the age of 70 to display their court craft with the basketball while indulging in a game of fun and sportsmanship.
More importantly, the veterans from different nations will also build a strong bond of Asean friendship and camaraderie among themselves.
That would be the ultimate objective of the tournament itself, and not so much in winning medals and trophies, said Jeffrey Pang, organising chairman of the tournament.
The tournament has four categories, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70-year-olds. All the games will be played at the Miri Indoor Stadium from 8 am to 4 pm.
