Miri man fined RM4,000 for obstructing cop from discharging duties

MIRI (July 31): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 31-year-old man RM4,000 in default four months in jail for obstructing a police officer from discharging his duties.

Magistrate Randu Rangen meted out the fine on Benedick Michael of Bandar Baru Permyjaya here after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

He committed the offence at an entertainment outlet at Waterfront Commercial Centre here around 3am on July 28, this year, by obstructing Cpl Muhammad Hafidzzul Jimat from discharging his duties as a police officer.

Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case while Benedick was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
