MIRI (Aug 22): Police have received a report regarding the bottle-throwing’ incident during the Pencak Silat event at Miri City Stadium yesterday, which led to spectators being banned from the competition.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said an investigation paper has been opened on the case.

“So, we will investigate the police report under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

“We received the police report from one of the committee members involved in this Sukma event, but I can’t reveal the name. We will look at the CCTV footage and evaluate it as asked, that’s one thing we see in our investigation process,” he told a press conference at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) Miri Media Centre this morning.

“For the police report made, this is only in Miri and so far, there have been no arrests yet. The matter is still under investigation because we just received information about last night’s incident. So, we investigate first.”

Alexson said the police have doubled the number of personnel on duty at the indoor stadium.

“So far, for the stadium grounds, there is nothing to worry about. All in safe condition.

“We have not received any information about any threats or things that could threaten the order or comfort of the players competing in this stadium,” he said.

He added there have not been any reports of unauthorised individuals trying to sneak into the venue.

It is understood that nearly 40 policemen have been deployed to strictly control the stadium and its grounds today.

The personnel on duty are guarding the entrances to the stadium and only allowing those with passes or accreditation cards to enter.

Yesterday, a plastic bottle landed in the arena area and a plastic cup landed in the technical area during the quarter-final match involving Sarawak’s Iman Syakilla Mahdi and Federal Territories’ Nurin Alyaa Damia.

Due to the incident, the Sukma Sarawak Pencak Silat technical committee decided last night that no spectators would be allowed for the remaining matches until the end of the tournament tomorrow.
