MIRI (Sept 4): Baram VT emerged champion in the Baram Closed Mixed Team Volleyball tournament held in conjunction with National Day celebrations in Lutong over the weekend.

Baram VT beat PDRM Long Lama in the final, while Kolej Tun Haji Bujang Miri was third.

Organised by the Baram Recreational Sports Club (KSRB), the tournament attracted 140 players representing 14 teams.

Each team had three male and three female players.

Club chairman Nicholas Tingang said the tournament was held in Miri for the first time and attracted a good response.

It aimed to draw the interest of Baram’s indigenous people who reside in Miri City due to their work.

It was a platform to help unite the Baram community from various areas such as Baram Ulu, Baram Hilir, Baram Tengah, Baram Tinjar, and  Baram Apoh Tutoh.

The club also plans to organise events for other sports such as futsal and badminton in the city.

A badminton tournament for the YB Dato Dennis Ngau Cup is scheduled on Sept 15-16.
