MIRI: The Miri Youth Care Team, an independent organisation,  hosted a special outing for 18 senior citizens from the Miri Home For The Age today.

The day started with breakfast at 2020 Cafe Pelita Commercial Centre, where they were joined in by Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, where the breakfast was generously sponsored by the owner of 2020 Cafe.

Yii praised organisation members for their goodwill, noting that the young volunteers have extended their compassion to less fortunate groups through their dedicated service.

He commended the volunteers for their loving actions and encouraged more young people to join volunteer organisations to organise and contribute more care and love activities for those in need in the community.

“Participating in charitable work not only involves public welfare but also reflects sincerity and love.

“For those involved in charity activities, it means they are willing to sacrifice their time to share joy with the less fortunate,” he said.

Team leader Lee Jun Tak said that after breakfast at 8 am, the seniors were taken on a half-day tour from Miri to Bekenu by bus.

Following the tour, they enjoyed lunch at Gen2Gen Cafe Miri, located opposite Miri Airport, before being transported back to the Miri Home For The Age.

“This is not our first event for the elderly at Miri Home For The Age. We have organised activities and provided meals for them, especially during Chinese New Year and other festivals,” said Lee.

He emphasised that this time, with permission from Miri Home For The Age, they were able to take the elderly group out for an external half-day tour.

Lee expressed his gratitude to the community for their enthusiastic support and to the volunteers for their cooperation.
