SEREMBU assemblyman Miro Simuh who keeps a busy daily schedule starts his day with two glasses of plain water followed by a 30-minute physical workout.

That gets him going, he says.

NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE: What is your satisfaction as an assemblyman and how do you balance your life and work?

Miro: Satisfaction as an assemblyman is when you are able to help the people, whether by bringing development to Serembu. Plus when the people express their appreciation towards the work you did such as developing basic facilities, to me that is satisfactory enough. As for how I balance my life, I would try my best to find time to spend with my family even though I am a busy man. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg always reminds us that family is always the pillar or the cornerstone.

NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE: What is the lowest point in your career/life and what motivates you to keep going?

Miro: The lowest point during my political career was back in 2018, when Barisan Nasional (BN) lost the 13th General Election. We were lost, in terms of direction and guidance. I mean just imagine, we have been in the family for the past 50 years, and when that family is not in power, that makes us assemblymen/women wonder what is next. Thanks to Abang Johari and his wisdom, when we decided to stand on our own, that is the best decision we have ever made. And as you can see, the development that we bring is for the benefit of the people.

NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE: What are things that you like to do that gives impact to your constituency?

Miro: I like to see changes happen in Serembu, the living status in my constituency to be improved. That is my dream. I want everybody to enjoy the best economy that we have right now in Sarawak. And everybody must take that opportunity to benefit from what has been given by the government. So the best way is to work hard with the opportunity given by the government, one day we will enjoy the benefit of it.

NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE: What are your favourite films and music?

Miro: I love all the late Tan Sri P.Ramlee’s movies (Nujum Pak Belalang, Bujang Lapok film series). I watched these more than 20 times and I still enjoy them to this day. Because some of his films reflect the society that we are today. As for music, I’ve always listened to country music, and some of my favourite country artistes are Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson, and few more old timers such as the Bellamy Brothers.

NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE: What is your plan for Serembu in the next five years?

Miro: My aim in the next five years for Serembu is to continue bringing a lot of changes, in terms of development of the economy in my constituency. Especially when it comes to the tourism industry in Serembu. I develop a lot of tourism and agriculture products in my area because this industry would be beneficial to the people in Serembu. So that is why my main focus in Serembu is three things which is tourism, agriculture and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
