MIRI (Aug 15): The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained an offshore supply vessel for failure to submit a port clearance pass in Miri waters yesterday.
Miri Maritime Zone director Maritime Captain Mohd Khairol Anuar Saad in a statement today said the vessel was detained at a distance of one nautical mile west of the Miri River mouth.
“The inspection found that the ship was operated by a captain and seven Indonesian crew members, between the ages of 23 and 52.
“The ship, which is registered in Jakarta, Indonesia was ordered back to port, and the captain and crew members were taken to the pier to facilitate investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years, or both, upon conviction.
“MMEA remains committed to enforcing the law and will not compromise with any individuals who violate the stipulated regulations,” said Mohd Khairol.
