KUCHING: Missing the chance to stand on the podium for Sarawak in the men’s 10m air rifle does not disrupt Mohd Haziq Fadhil’s focus for his next two games.
According to the 20-year-old from Limbang, he had high hopes to win a medal in the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) for the home state as men’s 10m air rifle is his core game.
“I am sorry Sarawak that I didn’t get a medal for my match and bring glory for the state. It was all due to my own mistake.
“The game was quite tough. I will redeem myself in my next two games. I hope that I will be able to win medals in my next games for Sarawak.
“This loss today will not disrupt me mentally and physically,” he said.
Expressing his confidence in his preparation for his next games, he commented that the state’s incentives to Sarawak’s athletes also inspire SUKMA athletes to get medals.
“What Sarawak is offering, by far, is the highest compared to other states. Therefore, I believe the incentives that the Premier announced will result in Sarawak to win more gold (medals) and be overall champion in this SUKMA,” he said.
For the record, Negeri Sembilan won the gold and silver medals in the men’s 10m air rifle with the score of 237.2 and 236.8 respectively while Perak won bronze with the score of 216.5.
