SINGAPORE: The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Singapore (STATOS) is seeking more direct flights between Singapore and Sarawak.

Its chief executive officer Chew Chang Guan said that the request was made because there is a need to increase the frequency of existing flights as they are always full.

“As of May, this year, 24,000 visitors from Singapore have travelled to Sarawak, marking a 15 percent increase compared to last year.

“Many also often tell us that flights to Sarawak are always fully booked, so we are now in discussions with airlines to increase the frequency of flights from Singapore to Sarawak,” he said.

He said this in an exclusive interview with UKAS during a visit to the exhibition site at Marina Square, Singapore, on Friday.

Meanwhile, STATOS Deputy Chief Executive Officer Putrie Rozana Soraya said that popular destinations in Sarawak include Kuching, Miri, and Sibu.

“I believe Kuching, Miri, and Sibu are the main entries for visitors from Singapore. Each of these destinations has its own unique charm.

“We also offer different products at each destination,” she added.
