Most Sarawak stations record moderate air quality

KUCHING: Air quality was moderate at 17 of the 21 locations monitored across Sarawak at 12pm today(Sept 27), although three areas remained in the unhealthy range.

The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) recorded good air quality in Bario, where the Air Pollutant Index (API) stood at 48.

Among the areas with moderate readings were Kuching at 94, Samarahan at 83, Sibu and Sarikei at 65 each, and Miri at 61.

There was an encouraging change in Sri Aman as the Department of Environment’s hourly APIMS table showed its API falling from 128 at 9am to 102 at noon.

According to NREB, the noon reading still placed Sri Aman in the unhealthy category, alongside Lubok Antu at 140 and Serian at 152.

Serian recorded the highest reading in the state, while Kuching’s API eased from 98 in the early morning to 94 at noon, based on the APIMS hourly figures.

NREB’s list also placed Betong at 91, Kanowit at 84 and Tebedu at 83, all within the moderate range.
