KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 14): MSU College (MSUC) Sarawak recently hosted the MSUC Sarawak Ethnic Festival (MSU Sarathnic Fest) at Kuching Waterfront, which upheld the objectives of cultivating cultural literacy and promoting mutual tolerance among the younger generation.
The Management and Science University (MSU) and MSU College president Prof Tan Sri Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid attended the opening ceremony with MSU vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, where they were accompanied by the senior officials of MSUC Sarawak.
In highlighting the festival’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mohd Shukri said MSU had always aimed to provide quality education, in fostering graduates who would continue to embody holistic values, cultural appreciation, and patriotism in shaping their individual identity.
“The festival is designed to empower students and the younger generation by equipping them with cultural literacy components that are crucial for building a united and competitive society.
“As a higher education institution, it is crucial to embrace creativity and leverage the latest technology.
“This will enable us to foster cultural diversity and inclusivity among our students,” he said in his address for the opening ceremony of MSU Sarathnic Fest 2024.
During the festival, a wide range of activities were conducted such as an ethnic booth competition, a cultural heritage walk, an ethnic step-up session, an ethnic dance competition, an eco-ethnic fashion show, and also the ‘Sarathnic Race’.
Over 300 students from many secondary schools in Kuching attended the event.
