MUKAH (Jan 19): The crime index in this district recorded a decrease of 34 cases in 2025 compared to 2024, reflecting the effectiveness of preventive and enforcement measures implemented by the police, said Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias.

He said that 258 reports were recorded in 2024, while the figure dropped to 224 reports in 2025.

“Although the overall trend shows a decline, the increase in cases involving causing injury and house break-ins in 2025 must be taken seriously.

“Police have been instructed to intensify crime prevention patrols in hotspot areas, take swift action against repeat offenders, and strengthen community policing programmes through closer cooperation with local leaders,” he said during the Mukah district police headquarters’ monthly assembly on Monday.

Muhamad Rizal praised the achievements of the Criminal Investigation Division, which successfully arrested nine men in connection with theft cases under Sections 379, 379A and 431 of the Penal Code throughout 2025.

For narcotics crime, he said arrests recorded a significant increase, with 292 made in 2025 compared to 221 in 2024, representing an increase of 32.12 per cent.

“Overall narcotics arrests surged by 90.56 per cent, with increases of 66.66 per cent in the supply category and 51.65 per cent in the possession category.

“In addition, seizures of syabu also increased to 166.44 grammes in 2025 compared to 145.54 grammes in the previous year.

“The prosecution rate for narcotics cases reached 71.38 per cent, with 202 cases successfully brought to court out of 283 cases opened,” he said.

For commercial crime, he said the number of reports declined from 144 cases in 2024 to 136 cases in 2025.

Financial losses also recorded a significant drop from RM1.81 million to RM654,221.93, representing a reduction of 63.87 per cent, he said.

“The decline was the result of anti-scam awareness campaigns, swift action in freezing bank accounts and close cooperation with financial institutions.

“However, the threat of online fraud remains a serious concern and requires more aggressive action,” he said.

On road accidents, he said statistics showed that the total number remained at 431 cases for both 2024 and 2025.

“However, fatal accident cases increased from 11 to 17 cases in 2025.

“Each figure represents the loss of life and tragedy for families. Traffic enforcement will be intensified especially at accident-prone locations as well as during peak hours and festive seasons,” he said.

For 2026, he stressed that their priority is to combat crime and drug threats in a more aggressive and integrated manner.

“I want 2026 to be a turning point, with a significant reduction in the crime index, a decrease in drug distribution activities, and increased public confidence in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

“All officers and personnel are to continue working as one team, with integrity and courage, to ensure the safety and well-being of the Mukah community,” he said.
