MIRI, Jan 18: Four members of a family have been attacked by their neighbour’s pet dog with the latest case happening on last Sunday (Jan 14) where the youngest victim, a Primary Three girl, sustained serious injuries which required 11 stitches.
The incident happened at Kampung Luak.
DayakDaily was told that on Sunday at around 6pm, the young girl, accompanied by her grandmother, took the rubbish out. When they were trashing the rubbish, the dog suddenly appeared and charged at the young girl.
“Up until today, the dog owner has yet to meet the victim’s family to apologise,” said Miri City Council (MCC) Councilor Tan Lek Jin when contacted today.
Apart from the young girl, three other members of the girl’s family, including her father, mother and uncle had also been victims of the same dog.
On Tuesday (Jan 16), Tan visited the victim’s family to try resolve the matter.
Tan and MCC staff then called on the dog’s owner and requested the owner to apologise to the victim’s and her family.
“We had also asked him if the dog was vaccinated, and he told us that the dog was vaccinated last year, but he refused to show us proof of the dog’s rabies vaccination,” Tan said.
According to Tan, for the dog to be removed from the house, MCC needs to first issue a warning letter. — DayakDaily
