KAPIT (July 15): The Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari will continue to remain an important event in Sarawak’s tourism calendar to draw visitors to the state, said Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister, however, said efforts must be made by the relevant parties to ensure the event remains attractive and draw greater participation.

“There is a decline in participation this year, and we must reflect on how to rejuvenate this event to make it more attractive in the years ahead,” he said at the conclusion of the three-day 27th Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari here yesterday.

Nanta said with Malaysia holding the Asean chair next year and hosting Visit Malaysia Year in 2026, more events will be taking place in Sarawak and the rest of the country, bringing with them more visitors.

“Hence, we need to brainstorm to come up with new ways to draw people to Sarawak in general, and also Kapit which has its own unique offerings.

Among those present yesterday were Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong who is Deputy Digital Minister, Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai, and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang.
