KUCHING (July 18): The tender for the construction of Rambungan Bridge in Lundu is expected to be awarded to a new contractor next month, said Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.

He said the previous contractor had his contract for the project terminated due to unsatisfactory performance.

“It has been replaced by a new rescue contractor through a series of tenders by the Public Works Department (JKR).

“We understand that as of now, the tender has closed, undergoing evaluation, and the new contractor may commence work or be awarded the tender next month (August),” he told a press conference after attending a briefing on the updates of several projects in Kuching Division at the JKR office here today.

Aidel added that Lembaga Tender had been entrusted to decide on the new contractor to continue related works on the project.

Regarding the Matang Baru road upgrading project, Aidel noted that it also experienced minor delays and is behind schedule.

He mentioned it was another project where the contract was terminated due to unsatisfactory contractor performance.

“The contract was terminated at only two per cent completion of physical work and has been taken over by a new rescue contractor. Progress is now promising with completion reaching 27.57 per cent as of June.

“This project is expected to be completed by July 2025 and involves constructing a dual-lane road over four km from Batu Kawa junction to Matang Jaya,” he added.

Also present at the briefing was Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
