TATAU: The Sarawak government has successfully drawn substantial investments to the region by exploring new economic opportunities that boost the local economy and increase revenue.

According to Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, the efforts to boost research and development on Sarawak’s natural resources, particularly through carbon trading and research initiatives, have yielded new economic resources poised to double the state’s income.

“We practice an open economy, which results in numerous business opportunities and high-quality jobs.

“Therefore, young people must strive to improve their knowledge and skills, strengthening their competitiveness to seize opportunities in our open economy.

“For instance, with the government’s emphasis on the green energy sector, young people should act swiftly to take advantage of available opportunities, ensuring they meet the requirement for forthcoming job openings,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Yayasan Sarawak Education Expo 2024 held at SMK Tatau Hall on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sikie said according to the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), Sarawak is set to experience economic prosperity driven by data and innovation.

“The introduction of the PCDS 2030 Action and Implementation Plan (AIP) has provided Sarawak with a roadmap for achieving new milestones.

“We are accelerating our infrastructure development to improve living standards, boosting the economy to create business and job opportunities, and training Sarawak’s youth to become more skilled and increase their income.

“Sarawak is considered a leading example in pioneering diversity and serves as a model for other regions in Peninsular Malaysia,” he added.
