No tolerance for misconduct; Miri police chief stresses discipline, integrity

MIRI: Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu has reinforced his commitment to uphold  high levels of discipline and integrity within the force.

Speaking at the Miri IPD monthly assembly today, ACP Alexson emphasised that discipline has always been at the core of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and must remain a priority for all personnel.

“I am continuously working on discipline, which has been central to PDRM’s service for years. We, in the police force, must prioritise discipline in every assignment, in addition to expressing loyalty to leadership and adhering to regulations,” he said.

He highlighted the crucial role of the Integrity and Standards Compliance Division (BIPS) in monitoring officers, personnel, and public officers to ensure they comply with all regulations.

ACP Alexson stressed that any form of misconduct would damage the reputation of the PDRM and negate the contributions made by honest officers.

“The actions we take can have far-reaching implications. Acts of misconduct tarnish the good name of the entire PDRM team. If discipline is practised consistently by each of us, we will remain on the right path,” he added.

The police chief made it clear that he would not compromise with any officers — whether senior, junior, or public officials — who engage in criminal activities or misconduct.

 “I will not tolerate anyone involved in criminal acts or breaches of discipline,” he added.

Alexson also referred to Regulation 3C of the Public Officers (Conduct & Discipline) Regulations 1993, stressing that enforcement must be stringent to maintain the public’s trust in the police service.

He acknowledged the growing concerns about social media on police integrity, particularly regarding issues of corruption and criminal involvement.

“The police face various integrity challenges, but close monitoring and effective supervision are necessary to reduce the opportunities for misconduct and to address the negative public perceptions surrounding the police force,” he said.

Also present at the assembly was Deputy Superintendent Nur Ashyikin Abdullah.

A total of 33 police personnel from various ranks were awarded with certificates of appreciation during the Miri IPD monthly assembly.
