Office workers experience earthquake tremors in building

LIMBANG: Hundreds of government employees rushed out of the Limbang Plaza building here after feeling tremors from an earthquake that struck Mindanao, the Philippines today.

TVS reported that the earthquake, which measured 6.6 on the Richter scale, occurred at around 10 am, causing significant alarm among the workers.

The tremor, which lasted for approximately one minute, was strongly felt by government employees on multiple floors of the building.

The 8th floor, housing the Public Works Department (PWD) office, the 7th floor (Land and Survey Department), the 6th floor (District and Resident Office), as well as the 5th and 4th floors, experienced notable shaking.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake’s epicentre was located 154 kilometres southeast of Isabela City, the Philippines, with a depth of 632 kilometres.

Following the incident, tremors were also felt in several areas of Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Putatan, and in the northern parts of Sarawak.

In response to the incident, all government premises in Limbang Plaza have been ordered to close for inspection by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Despite the significant tremors, MetMalaysia confirmed that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
