KANOWIT (Oct 1): The Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (Mirrda) will bring and prioritise high-impact projects to improve the socio-economy of the local communities in Selangau and Kanowit.
In stating this, Mirrda special administrative officer Kathreen Lalai Eddie Saga said a certain amount from the RM1.5 billion total allocation for the agency has been spent for development activities in the area so far.
“The focus is on basic infrastructure and facilities, especially roads and agricultural activities,” she said during the ceremony to hand over Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Programme (PPRMS) plaque at Rumah Anthony Langit in Sungai Pedai here on Saturday.
Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana presented the plaque to Tuai Rumah Anthony at the event.
In his speech, Anyi said he was tasked to be the committee chairman for four former major Rascom resettlements in Selangau and Kanowit.
“My task is to oversee progress and development of the resettlements, namely Nanga Sekuau in Selangau and Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun and Nanga Tada in Kanowit,” he said.
At the same event, Anyi explained the distribution of allocation and implementation procedure of the PPRMS, Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to the longhouse chiefs.
Meanwhile, Kanowit police chief DSP Dennis Bunyam who spoke earlier touched on the issue of peace and security.
He also explained the transfer of shotguns from parents to their children and the reason why firearm must be kept at a police station when the original owner dies.
“The transfer procedure requires the gun to be kept at the police station but this does not mean that the gun becomes police property as often misunderstood by the public,” he said.
At the event, Anyi announced RM8,000 for Rumah Anthony’s Village Security and Development Committee.
Also present were Anyi’s wife Gelim Utan, Penghulu Lembat Atau and Penghulu Charlie Salang.
