Ops PEWA, Luxury: Five vehicles seized in Sibu

SIBU, Sept 18: A total of five vehicles were seized by the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Foreign Drivers' Ops (PEWA) and Luxury Ops on Wong King Huo Road, here yesterday.

The combined operation involved JPJ Sibu along with members of SP Stapang, Sibu's JSPT and Malaysia Immigration Department (JIM).

JPJ Sibu Branch Chief, Jelapin Entalai led the operation which saw 455 vehicles inspected.

According to JPJ Sarawak's statement, the inspection found various faults including not wearing seat belts, use of HID/LED lights, expired driving licence and failure to display 'P' sticker, in addition to vehicle technical faults.

"Five vehicles were seized for several offences including relating to Motor Vehicle License (LKM) and expired insurance coverage.

"The seized vehicles consisted of a luxury vehicle, two motorcycles and one motorcycle, while another motorcycle was seized because it was driven by foreign citizens who did not have a valid driver's license", the statement said.

JPJ Sarawak said all enforcement and seizure measures were carried out in accordance with the provisions of the law in force.

Cooperation between the agencies will continue to improve enforcement effectiveness, while ensuring compliance and safety of road users is always a priority. -TVS
