Organiser hails ‘Junior Award School Scheme’ in Bukit Mabong a success

KAPIT (Oct 16): Some 100 pupils from 10 rural primary schools in Bukit Mabong District have just completed the six-month ‘Junior Award School Scheme Programme’ (JASS).

Syarikat Teguh Niaga Engineering & Services Berhad chairman Tang Kuak Ting officiated at the closing ceremony, held at SK Nanga Bawai in Baleh near here recently.

According to Tang, this inaugural programme in Sarawak was a joint initiative between the International Youth Centre (IYC) and JASS Malaysia, supported by Kapit District Education Office, the Education Ministry (MoE) and the Hulu Rajang Parliamentary Service Centre, with his company coming in as the sponsor.

“JASS is an ‘International Award Scheme’ from the UK, which is based on the development of learning progress (progressive learning programme) and character development (character-building).

“The aim to increase the level of competency of participants in extra-curricular and academic activities. It also supports the development of grassroots talents, as it provides a platform for students to participate in international programmes and gain international recognition,” he said in a statement.

Participants who had successfully completed the programme were each awarded the ‘Bronze JASS International Award’, received the ‘National Level 1 Curriculum Mark’ (PAJSK) recognition from the MoE.

Ravichandran Balasubramaniam represented Deputy Digital Minister and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong at the event.
