KUCHING (July 30): Organisers of the Mayor’s Walk 2024 are expecting more than 10,000 participants for the event, scheduled for this Aug 18, which is a Sunday.

In anticipation for this, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has prepared 10,000 official T-shirts.

The flag-off is set at 7am at the foyer of the MBKS building.

Registration for Mayor’s Walk 2024 can be done using the ‘iPeople’ app, downloadable via Google Play Store (for Android), or the IOS Store.

According to Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, those installing the iPeople app would have to create their own accounts first.

“Upon successful login, a new user can click ‘Event’ on the app interface to reach the digital registration form for the Mayor’s Walk 2024, and upon arriving at the ‘Intro’ page, the user can tap ‘Register Now’.

“The user can also include additional participants by clicking the ‘Add Other Participant’ button, which allows a maximum of three additional participants.

“After successful registration, a single QR code will be generated for the purpose of T-shirt collection. The date and venue for the participants to redeem the T-shirts will be notified via the ‘iPeople’ app.

“The closing date for registration is on Sunday, Aug 11, 2024. Please note that the T-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The supply is limited, so act quickly,” Wee explained during a press conference yesterday, adding that the Mayor’s Walk would be one of many activities bring run in connection with the ongoing Kuching Festival 2024.

He said should the T-shirts run out, participants are encouraged to wear those from last year’s event or, if possible, any yellow shirt to join the walk.

“This is a multi-faceted event that not only promotes physical health, but also strengthens community ties, supports local economies, and fosters a sense of civic pride and environmental responsibility.”

A brief Zumba warm-up session will commence at 6.30am, running for half-an-hour before flag off.

Wee also took the opportunity to thanks the sponsors for helping the MBKS realise the vision of ‘transforming Kuching City South into a liveable place through effective implementation of policies, service delivery, and community engagement’.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, including Ibraco Berhad, 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Kuching Love Book Association, Sarawak Energy Bhd, BWCJ (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (CHAGEE), City Joggers Club, and Premier Echo Sound & Light System Sdn Bhd.

“Your contributions will help make this event a memorable and impactful experience for all participants. Thank you for your dedication to our community and your unwavering support.

“Together, we are building a healthier, more connected, and vibrant Kuching City,” said the mayor.
