KUCHING (Sept 23): The Jungle Adventure-themed Family Fun Day at Tunku Putra-HELP School campus on Saturday received overwhelming response with over 1,600 attendees joining in the fun.
The event raised more than RM8,400 which will be donated to the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), a body dedicated to conservation and environmental education in Malaysia.
The school’s executive principal Shirley Harrison highlighted that the focus of the event was on community and charity.
“Our annual Family Fun Day is more than just a school event. It’s a celebration of community spirit, creativity, and compassion.
“We’re thrilled to welcome families for a day of fun and adventure, all while supporting the Malaysian Nature Society’s incredible work,” she said in a statement.
MNS Kuching Branch chairperson Rose Au Nyat Jun said the organisation was honoured to be the selected charity for Tunku Putra-HELP’s Family Fun Day this year.
“The support from the Kuching community is invaluable to our conservation efforts,” she said.
This year’s event featured the inclusion of new and exciting activities that aligned with the ‘Jungle Adventure’ theme, such as a glamping experience where attendees relaxed in themed tents that brought the jungle experience to life.
For adventure enthusiasts, a jungle obstacle course was erected to challenge participants of all ages, adding an extra element of fun to the event.
Attendees were encouraged to dress according to the theme and participate in a ‘Best Dressed’ competition, with prizes awarded for the most creative and adventurous costumes.
Moreover, the event featured a lively bazaar with mouth-watering food, thrilling games, and captivating performances, as well as booths selling pre-loved items and handicrafts.
Tunku Putra-HELP School is a partnership between three leading organisations: HELP Education Group, Ibraco Berhad, and Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad, to bring wider opportunities for world-class education at affordable fees for the residents of Sarawak.
Offering both national and international curricula, the school can accommodate kindergarten, primary, secondary, and A-level students.
The international programme adopts the British Education Curriculum culminating in the widely-recognised International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Examination (CIE) A-Level qualifications.
The national programme offers the Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) and Secondary School Standard Curriculum (KSSM), where students sit for national examinations such as Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Subjects including Mathematics and Science are further complemented with Singapore and British syllabi.
In December 2020, the school received the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) Accreditation, making it the first and only international school in Borneo and among the top 20 schools worldwide to receive this esteemed accreditation.
According to Harrison, the school currently has a student body of over 900 local and international students.
She added that the school combines the best of Western and Eastern education, where students have the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while also equipped with 21st-century skills.
