KUCHING (Oct 15): The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) has disbursed over 91 per cent of the RM110 million allocated to it for this year.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the balance of funds now stood at RM9.576 million.
During Unifor’s third handing over of grant cheques for 2024 today, Uggah told grant recipients who had yet to utilise funds previously allocated to them that they would not receive any further grants.
The minister in charge of Unifor pointed out it is important the recipients efficiently use the financial aid for their respective houses of worship to benefit their respective communities.
“We still have some recipients from the last one to two years who have not used these funds. So, we have a policy whereby if the funds given earlier are not used, then we cannot give more.
“This is not a place for you to find a ‘fixed deposit’ for your houses of worship, but this fund is to solve your problems,” he was quoted as saying in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.
A total 75 recipients representing houses of worship received grants totalling RM20.66 million during the event.
