SIBU: Brooke Drive Neighbourhood Committee under the Ministry of National Unity had successfully organised a ‘Free Health Screening cum Government Mobile Service’ programme at the building next to Xin Fu Yuan Church in Brooke Drive here recently.
According to the committee’s chairperson, Melinda Wong Kwong Hung, the event had received overwhelming response from the public.
She revealed that a total of 1,028 various screenings and services were done during the event.
The health screening, she stated, includes checking of Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure and glucose, Pap smear, HPV DNA and Registration subsidy for Mammogram, Doctor and Pharmacist’s consultations, dental checking, hearing test, Eye Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism, Clinical Breast Examination, test kits for colon cancer and Health exhibition.
She said medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, audiologist, optometrist, medical assistants and government officials were present to cater to the required services by the public who attended.
“We hope this health screening will help in identifying those who are at risk or having any condition or disease that you don’t know about. No doubt early detection of diseases results in better management and treatment of the disease, which increases the chances of better health outcomes.
“Besides health screening, various government departments had also come went to ground to set up mobile booths to offer its respective services. Such as, EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) booth providing full EPF services to the attendees.
“Sibu Divisional Community Welfare Office had also come to help in the application of Kenyalang Gold Card, Senior Citizen Medical Benefits and also application for other assistance. All the relevant information had indeed benefited those who came to the event,” she enthused.
“Prevention is better than cure,” Wong said, adding it is everyone’s hope to enjoy a healthy body.
