KUCHING, Nov 13: The Sarawak government has conducted perimeter survey on more than 1.2 million hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land since 2010, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said as of September this year, some 862,715 hectares of land had been gazetted under Section 6 – a clear identification between NCR and State land.
“Under Section 18, some 93,093 hectares had been surveyed and 76,711 individual titles had been issued, free of any charge or premium and in perpetuity,” he said during Universiti Malaya Dayak Alumni Association’s (PADUM) 10th anniversary dinner last night (Nov 12).
Uggah who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development as well as Bukit Saban assemblyman further mentioned that the Sarawak government has amended the Sarawak Land Code to recognise ‘Pulau Galau’ and ‘Pemakai Menoa’ as Native Territorial Domain (NTD).
“With the new economy of carbon trading, untouched NCR land could be one of its potential contributors,” he added.
Uggah’s wife Datu Doreen Mayang, PADUM president Cooplay Nyipa Aji, Senator Rita Insol, the dinner’s organising chairperson Marie Joanna Buma and Kuching Division Dayak paramount chief Temenggong Nelson Kloni were among those present. – DayakDaily
