KUCHING (July 31): Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has collected 14 tonnes of recycled goods and electronic waste in July as part of its month-long cleanliness campaign.

In disclosing this, MPP chairman Tan Kai said a series of activities were being carried out at schools and in the community to spread awareness of environmental sustainability and conservation.

“Our environmental sustainability programme at Kampung Beradek attracted 100 participants who took part in producing soaps from recycled oil, river presentation talks and other activities,” he said.

Tan said this in his speech at the closing ceremony of the council’s cleanliness month campaign, held at Batu Kawa Riverbank Park yesterday.

Among the activities held throughout July included solid waste segregation programme; sculpture design competition using recycled materials; ‘No Plastic Days and No to Styrofoam Food Container 2024’; buy-back programme for recyclable goods and electronic waste; health and cleanliness education programme for food premises operators; and logo design competition; and mass rabies vaccination, dog licensing and microchipping programme.

Meanwhile, Tan said a programme carried out at the basketball court of SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa last month saw 367 dogs vaccinated against rabies and 165 being microchipped.

“A total of 164 dog licence applications were also submitted,” he added.

Also taking place during the closing ceremony yesterday was the introduction of MPP’s cat mascot.
