KUCHING (Aug 6): Several roads in Padawan district will close from Aug 14-17 to make way for the Sukma XXI Cycling race track.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the 144km race for men’s and women’s individual as well as team events, will start and end at Politeknik Matang.

“A total of 15 contingents from all states in Malaysia, as well as the Brunei contingent, will participate in this race.

“To ensure a smooth and safe race during Sukma XXI, the IPK Sarawak Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) is responsible for minimising traffic congestion and preventing any untoward incidents,” Mancha said in a statement.

He said the police will be conducting five road closures and diversions around the venue and race locations in stages.

The roads to be closed during the event are Jalan Akses Politeknik Kuching; Jalan Pehin Sri Adenan Satem – Jalan FAC; Jalan Kampung Ulu Selang – Telaga Air traffic light; Kopodim traffic light; and Matang Jaya traffic light.

Mancha suggested motorists use alternative routes and plan their journey to avoid road congestion during that period.

“Members of the public are advised to obey the traffic control signs and directions of the police officers on duty.

“Legal action under the Road Transport Act 1987 will be taken against any member of the public who disobeys the instructions from the police,” he warned.

The schedule of events and diversion locations will also be posted on the JSPT Sarawak Facebook page.
