KUANTAN (July 19): Pahang athletes who will be involved in the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Sarawak have been rested from participating in any tournament.

Pahang Sports Council (MSP) director Zamri Hassan said it was to prevent the athletes from getting injured which would affect their participation in Sukma.

“Our preparations, including the athletes, are now at the maximum level, only some aspects of administration need to be streamlined before leaving to participate in the Games.

“Athletes who trained abroad have also returned to make the rest of their preparations in Pahang,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Pahang is targeting 40 gold medals at Sukma 2024 from several events including shooting, martial arts, hockey, athletics and archery.

According to Zamri, the first group of Pahang athletes is scheduled to leave for the Land of the Hornbills on August 6 before being followed by the next team on August 15.

He said more than 58 MSP personnel will accompany all the athletes involved and take care of their needs.

The 21st Sukma Sarawak 2024 will take place from August 17 to 24 and Pahang is betting on 603 athletes who will participate in 36 events. – Bernama
