KUCHING: In celebration of White Cat Day and the 36th anniversary of Kuching City Day, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has announced the Paper Mache Cat competition.
This creative event is open to all primary and secondary school students within the council area, offering them a unique opportunity to showcase their artistic talents.
The competition, commencing on Wednesday (June 19) and concluding on July 8, invites aspiring artists to craft cat sculptures solely from recycled papers, adhering to specified dimensions (height 30cm, length 20cm, width 20cm).
The paper mache cat can either be painted or unpainted, and should be an original creation and not previously submitted in any other competitions.
Entries must be submitted through respective schools, accompanied by completed application forms and a brief description of the sculpture to 3rd Floor, PRCD Unit at MBKS. Each school can submit multiple entries, but each student can only submit one entry.
Participants compete in two categories.
For the Primary School (ages 6 to 12) category, awards include RM1,000 for the first prize winner, RM700 for second prize, RM300 for third prize, and RM100 each for seven consolation prizes.
Similarly, in the Secondary School (ages 13 to 17, awards include RM1,000 for the first prize winner, RM700 for second prize, RM300 for third prize, and RM100 each for seven consolation prizes.
A RM500 special award will also be presented to the school with the highest number of participants for the two categories.
Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, craftsmanship, and adherence to the recycled materials-only rule by a panel of experts. The panel’s decision will be final.
