KUCHING (Sept 16): In an exciting move to boost the esports landscape in Sarawak, PC Image Sdn Bhd (PC Image) and the Sarawak Esports Association (SESA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday to collaborate on various initiatives aimed at promoting and developing esports in the region.
The MoU was signed at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and witnessed by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, according to a statement by SESA yesterday.
PC Image, one of Malaysia’s leading technology and electronics retailers, and SESA, a non-profit organisation committed to fostering esports talent, will work hand-in-hand to enhance the local esports ecosystem through events, training programmes and infrastructure development.
The MoU, signed by SESA president Afiq Fadhli Narawi and PC Image director Kong Chee Siong, marks the beginning of a three-year strategic partnership that will focus on key areas of growth for the esports community in Sarawak.
“Key objectives of the partnership include the establishment of a state-of-the-art Esports Hub in Sarawak, which will serve as a central facility for training, tournaments, and technological innovation.
“The project will aim to secure support and funding from the state government of Sarawak, with the goal of making the state a regional leader in the esports industry,” said SESA.
In addition to infrastructure development, PC Image will provide essential gaming equipment and technical support for SESA’s events and training programmes.
Both parties are committed to hosting esports tournaments and conducting workshops to nurture local talent, while also engaging with the wider community through educational programmes and outreach initiatives.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Afiq emphasised on the importance of this collaboration.
“This partnership is a crucial step forward for esports in Sarawak. With the backing of PC Image, we are confident that we can take Sarawak’s esports scene to new heights and provide more opportunities for our local talents to shine,” he said.
Echoing Afiq’s sentiments, Kong said: “At PC Image, we believe in the power of technology to transform industries, and esports is no exception.
“By partnering with SESA, we aim to contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of esports in Sarawak, while also fostering a vibrant community of gamers.”
The collaboration will also see the introduction of brand ambassadors, joint marketing campaigns, and research into emerging trends in esports.
With both parties dedicated to achieving long-term growth, this partnership promises to make Sarawak a hub of esports excellence in Malaysia and beyond.
