BAU: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Tiong King Sing has maintained a cautious stance regarding the potential merger with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

Emphasising the need for a thoughtful approach, he compared the process to a marriage, suggesting that it requires time and consideration.

Tiong, who recently returned from overseas, requested time to gather more information before making a formal statement.

“I have just returned from overseas, so let me understand more (on the matter) first then I will get back to you,” he told reporters at PDP deputy president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep’s Christmas Open House today (Dec 26).

“This matter is like marriage. If you want to get married, things need to be (planned) slowly, not rushed within a day,” he added.

Recently PSB deputy president I Johnical Rayong Ngipa indicated that PSB is expected to dissolve before the Chinese New Year. According to him, the party’s members plan to join the PDP en masse after reportedly receiving ‘green light’ to do so.

However, on Monday, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari denied claims that the GPS had sanctioned PSB’s proposed move to PDP.

“I am not sure where they received the ‘green light’ from but it was not from GPS because we haven’t had our meeting yet,” said Abang Johari.
