PDRM is investigating two incidents of convenience store fraud.

KUCHING, 21 Sept: Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Sarawak Container confirmed receipt of two reports of treason using fire and mixing objects suspected of explosive or toxic materials involving convenience stores in Kuching and Sri Aman, yesterday.

The Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, Managing Director of PDRM said the initial investigation found that the two incidents had almost identical modes of operation.

According to him, two men in masks and dark clothes are believed to have entered the premises before throwing an object suspected of containing explosives or flammable materials into the store.

"The incident resulted in explosions, property damage and a fire in one incident.

"No casualties or serious injuries were reported", he said in a statement today.

He said the motive of the incident is still under investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine for treason offences using fire or explosive materials to destroy houses or buildings.

"PDRM Sarawak is currently actively conducting an investigation to locate and apprehend the suspects, in addition to analyzing materials used, investigating CCTV footage as well as investigating possible links between the two incidents.

"As regards the allegations surrounding the premises selling online gambling top ups, the matter will also be investigated and action will be taken in case of wrongdoing, including requesting local authorities to consider cancelling business licenses.

"PDRM also advises premises owners who have not yet made a report to do so immediately, besides the public does not make speculations that could affect the investigation", he said.
