KUCHING: The Sarawak government has conduct perimeter surveys on more than 1.2 million hectares of native customary rights (NCR) land since 2010.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said as of September this year, some 862,715 hectares of NCR land had been gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code, distinguishing between NCR and state land.

“Under Section 18, some 93,093 hectares have been surveyed and 76,711 individual titles have been issued, free of any charge or premium and in perpetuity,” he said in his speech during the University Malaya Dayak Alumni Association’s (PADUM) 10th anniversary celebration last night  (Nov 12).

Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, added that the government has amended the State Land Code to recognise ‘Pulau Galau’ and ‘Pemakai Menoa’ as Native Territorial Domain.

“With the new economy of carbon trading, untouched NCR could be one of its potential contributors,” he said.

Among those present were Uggah’s wife Datuk Doreen Mayang, PADUM president Cooplay Nyipa Aji, Senator Rita Insol, dinner organising chairperson Marie Joanna Buma, and Kuching Division Dayak paramount chief Temenggong Nelson Kloni.
