PETRONAS marks 50th anniversary with student engagement

SIMANGGANG: To commemorate its 50th anniversary, PETRONAS hosted the ‘Powering Knowledge – Discover PETRONAS @ Schools’ (DPS) event here, engaging around 150 students from five secondary schools.

Students from SMK Sri Aman, SMK Lingga, SMK St. Luke, SMK Melugu, and SMK Simanggang participated in motivational sessions and interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities.

Organised in collaboration with the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd-Sarawak Asset (SKA), and the PETRONAS Group, the programme aims to foster individual and societal growth through educational initiatives.

“The highlight was a motivational talk by PETRONAS senior general manager (SGM) Malaysia Petroleum Management Anuar Ismail, who is originally from Simanggang.

Students from SMK Sri Aman, SMK Lingga, SMK St. Luke, SMK Melugu, and SMK Simanggang.

“The event featured activities conducted by Petrosains, focusing on promoting STEM education among students,” it said in a press release today (Aug 7).

The event was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development II (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis. Also present was Sri Aman Deputy Resident Charlie Keling, deputy head of Sri Aman District Education Office Nancy Nosiew, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Asset (SKA) SGM Noriani @Yati Mohamad, PETRONAS SGM Group Human Resource Management Abdullah Monshie, and PETRONAS alumni Yeo Sang Chiew and Malong Libu.

The 50th Anniversary celebration was inaugurated with the ignition of a commemorative torch, symbolising PETRONAS’ legacy and commitment to talent development. The torch will be carried to Kuching by Anuar on August 9.

PETRONAS’ 50th Anniversary celebration highlights its journey from its inception to becoming a global energy leader, emphasising unity, innovation, and sustainability. The event serves to honour past achievements and inspire future generations to continue contributing positively to the nation and the world.
