SIBU (July 28): Petronas and Sarawak have formed a strong partnership, having faced various challenges together over the past 50 years.
In stating this, Malaysia LNG Group of Companies managing director and chief executive officer Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi says this collaboration has helped Petronas grow from ‘almost nothing’ to its current position.
Malaysia LNG is a subsidiary of Petronas, handling the liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations of the corporation.
“All of this is the result of the collaboration between Petronas and the Sarawak government.
“I think without this cooperation, we would not be celebrating the 50th anniversary as we are enjoying it today,” he told reporters when met at the closing ceremony for Petronas Sibu Badminton Clinic 2024, at Sibu Indoor Stadium today.
The programme was run in connection with the Petronas’ 50th anniversary celebration.
Adding on, Mohamed Syazwan said Petronas would continue its operations in Sarawak, expecting to have better cooperation in the future.
“No matter what the challenges are, I believe both parties should be able to work together in the coming years for the future of the organisation, and also for the community,” he said.
On ‘Petronas 50 Homecoming’, Mohamed Syazwan said it reflected the history and achievements of the oil-and-gas multinational throughout the past 50 years, as signified by the theme, ‘Homecoming Torch Passing’.
“This represents the transition from pioneer to innovator, emphasising the continuous journey for growth and excellence.
“The organisation aims to inspire and motivate the next generation of Petronas leaders to continue our legacy and shape the future of Petronas,” he added.
At the same event, Asean Bintulu Fertiliser (ABF) managing director and chief executive officer Lawai Jok handed over the torch to Mohamed Syazwan for the next ‘Road to Petronas 50’ (RTP50) event, the PETRONITA Orchid Run and Ride, to be held this Aug 3 in Bintulu.
