KUCHING, 2 Oct: The Sarawak Brigade General Movement Force (PGA) recorded 29 successful rounds through six operations from 14 to 30 September last year, with the total value of loot estimated at RM84.42 million.
The Sarawak PGA Brigade Commander, Datuk Lim Bak Phai said the success also led to 41 arrests, consisting of 30 locals and 11 foreigners.
According to him, the cases detected involved various offences including storing and selling tobacco and non-taxable liquor, subsidized oil misuse, smuggling of control goods and frozen cold products, unauthorised timber activities, immigration and drug offences as well as processing and sale of sewage.
"With Op Taring Libas, three hits were recorded in Tatau, Kuching and Concrete involving the collection and processing of wood without permits.
"The seizures include plywood, processed wood, diesel oil, skid tank, heavy machinery, forklifts, trucks and processing equipment, with a total value of RM76.83 million", he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, he said, Op Taring Bravo in Sri Aman led to the seizure of 4,000 litres of diesel, a skid tank, four heavy engines and one truck, for a total value of RM3.79 million.
"Operation Taring Batas/Awas also recorded eight successes in Sri Aman, Lundu, Lawas, Serian and Bau involving immigration offenses, drugs, subsidized oil misuse, unauthorised logging and attempted smuggling of raw sugar and frozen cold products. The total value of the loot is estimated at RM2.18 million.
"For Op Taring Alpha, a total of 13 successes were recorded in Kuching, Padawan, Samarahan City, Sibu and Miri, involving the looting of 2,950 cartons of cigarettes and over 9,500 litres of liquor, besides one vehicle, for a total value of RM1.46 million", he said.
He said Op Taring Chiller in Miri had three successes with 2,826 kilograms of chicken products and frozen meats worth about RM158,995.
"While Op Taring Mitra in Kuching led to the arrest of two local men as well as the looting of 15 kilograms of leaf, 138 bottles of tap water, three gas tanks, two mobile phones, RM1,042 cash and processing equipment, worth a total of RM7,849.
"All seizures and loot were handed over to the relevant departments and agencies for further action and investigation in accordance with the provisions of the law in force", he said.
