KUCHING, July 25: Phase one of the dual-carriageway road upgrade project from the Bau-Lundu junction to Bau town, is expected to be completed by June 2026.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, stated that the project, which began in February, included the upgrade of the Public Works Department’s (JKR) existing R5 standard single road to a 3.65 kilometre-long U5 JKR standard dual carriageway, with a contract value of RM74 million.
“This dual-carriageway is nearly equivalent to the Pan Borneo Highway and connects directly to Bau town from the Pan Borneo Highway.
“However, the works are currently experiencing slight delays due to challenges such as utilities, including water supply, telephone poles, and the presence of many residential structures affected by the road construction,” he was quoted as saying.
Aidel made the remarks when met by the media during his work visit to the site in Bau yesterday (July 24).
He also expressed confidence that JKR is working diligently in coordination with the Land and Survey Department and utility agencies such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy), Telekom Malaysia, Sacofa, and the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to address these major issues.
Also present during the visit were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine), who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, Dato Henry Harry Jinep, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
Representing the Bau District officer was Eddy Nayoi, along with Kuching Division JKR engineer, Ir Ts Liew Ming Chek, Kuching Division JKR assistant engineer, Ts Angelia Belly, Bau District JKR engineer, senior executive engineer (Road Branch) Ts Jessica Ellinda Panti Robert Pasang, and senior executive engineer (Road Branch), Reman Adop. — DayakDaily
